Using Various Stop Smoking Aids to Stop Smoking Forever
60Do Stop Smoking Aids Work?
Stop smoking aids is not really a topic of my choosing because of my extreme interest in the topic or even to make money on it. My interest in stop smoking aids comes from my own personal battle with smoking over the past 20 years. I have been a smoker since I was 14 years old and I started sneaking them from my parents. Back then I thought it was cool and of course like every boy at that age I pretty much thought “to hell with what everyone says, I am not going to get addicted or die of cancer”. I have seen many family members try various stop smoking aids like habit replacement therapy and nicotine replacement therapy and numerous other smoking cessation products. Some had success, others, not so much. Every day we hear about the numerous methods to quit smoking and the countless stop smoking aids claiming miracles and even the ability to quit with a one hour long session in a stop smoking program. From patches and gums to hypnosis and laser therapy, everyone seems to have the perfect stop smoking aids. The latest stop smoking aid is the e-cigarette which gives the look and feel and even the taste of a real cigarette but the e-cigarette has no tobacco. The question becomes, “do any of these smoking cessation products work?”.
Stop Smoking Aids in My Personal Attempt to Stop Smoking
In my experiences over the years and my attempts to quit smoking and try to be healthier I have found that for me nothing works to help me stop smoking. I have tried stop smoking gums and patches, I tried prescription stop smoking aids, and I have even tried habit replacement therapy to quit smoking. For those who don't know what habit replacement therapy is, I will explain it in a moment. For 20 years I have been a smoker and for about 12 of those years I have tried at different times to stop smoking. I have various amounts of success, none of which lasted more than about 3 weeks. I am currently making an effort now to combine a couple of stop smoking aids to see if that will help me be successful at quitting. I will be using a prescription stop smoking aid and habit replacement therapy along with e-cigarettes. I hope to have success with this and hope to help others on their journey to stop smoking and lead a healthier life.
Habit Replacement Therapy as a Stop Smoking Aid
Back to habit replacement therapy. What habit replacement therapy does is replace one habit, usually a bad one, with another habit, preferably a not so unhealthy or harmful one. I will be using a new e-cigarette along with other habits or hobbies I enjoy. This type of stop smoking aid focuses on the mental part of the addiction but does nothing for the bodies physical addiction to smoking and nicotine. By taking a bad habit like smoking or gambling and replacing it with another enjoyable habit like eating candy or exercise you can take the addictive nature of your body and use that to form an addiction to something not so bad for you. Anyone who is an addict of some sort will understand the theory of addictive personality. Whether it is smoking, drinking, gambling, or eating, if you are prone to becoming addicted, then removing one addiction will only open the door to another addiction. By applying this theory to stop smoking aids, the hope is to find an activity or something that you really enjoy and make that your new addiction. Writing can actually be a good way to do this, exercise, games, or any healthy activity can work. I hope to replace my smoking habit with a tobacco free e-cigarette along with writing and cooking because they are two things I enjoy and should have no problem devoting a lot of time to them.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy as a Stop Smoking Aid
NRT or nicotine replacement therapy is another stop smoking aid that involves gums, patches or prescription medicines. This stop smoking aid is based solely on the bodies addiction to nicotine and has no effect on the mental addiction. I have personally used all three of these stop smoking aids and found the most success with a prescription medicine called Chantix. Chantix is a stop smoking aid that blocks the bodies pleasure receptors from the effect of nicotine. Basically it makes smoking more about the habit than the pleasure of the addiction. Stop smoking gums and patches work for some people but have not worked for me personally.
Combining Stop Smoking Aids to Stop Smoking Forever
My stop smoking method is going to be a
combination of the prescriptions stop smoking aids and the habit
replacement therapy. My hope is that by replacing my smoking habit
with another habit that I enjoy I will be able to stop the mental
addiction, and by using the prescription stop smoking aids I can stop
the physical addiction to nicotine and ultimately quit smoking
successfully. Wish me luck and I will be sure to update everyone on
how well my methods combining the use of these stop smoking aids
works for me. As of today I have my prescription, I have my ideas of habit replacement therapy which includes tobacco free e-cigarettes to help me on my journey. I am trying hard and I have managed to stay around half a pack per day. I was skeptical about using e-cigarettes to quit smoking but I think it actually helps when that urge hits and nothing really curbs the craving for a cigarette.

This is really Good...And there are some people I know that could benefit from it who I will lovingly pass it on to when the time is right! Thanks!!!!!
Best wishes in your battle to stop smoking! Your perception of the mental/habitual/physical aspects of the addiction is definitely true. Sorry the 'replacement' trials did not work for you, as I was going to lead you to my hub on quitting. Do let us know how your progress runs - don't give up - and again good wishes for your success!
I tried all of the methods you have included here, and failed with all of them, as well as many more not mentioned. I then discovered a fellow Hubber who had a great organised telephone course I could join, (nothing like any of the ones you described here, this one was really easy). After chatting with Lela (the lady who does these courses), I decided to join up, and that was nearly 15 months ago and I am still not smoking. The course was so good there were no drugs, replacements or whacky stuff to deal with. It is hard to explain here as her course is copyrighted, but I promise you it works. I was so impressed I wrote a number of hubs throughout my experiences, and if you want to take a look they are easy to find under my profile. Then, if you like the sound of it she does a free introductory session, so can "try before you buy" if you wish to.
Sincerely I wish you luck, as I know I feel stacks better since I stopped.
They don't call it an addiction for nothing. Hope it is still going well for you.
