CFL Light Bulbs Use 75% Less Energy

Introduction To CFL Light Bulbs

Just a few years ago CFL light bulbs were new and quite expensive, as much as $15 per bulb. With the promise of energy savings and the fact that the bulbs would eventually pay for themselves people began replacing old bulbs with CFL lighting. Replacing traditional light bulbs with CFL or compact fluorescent lights is much less expensive than it was just a few years ago. Amazon sells various brands and most of them are available in packs of 6 or more for under Ten dollars.

You Can Save Hundreds Each Year With CFL Light Bulbs

Let's say your electric bill is $100 per month. 40% or more of that is spent in lighting. Basically if we live in the dark we can save $40 per month, who wants to live in the dark? Ya I know me either. Here is a way that we can save 75% of the $40 lighting portion of our bill by only spending about 1 months worth on energy efficient CFL bulbs. This will basically pay for itself in the first month and then save you $30 per month after that so about $360 per year. The total savings for new CFL bulbs can be in the thousands over the life of these bulbs and they usually do not need to be replaced as often as traditional incandescent lights. If you save $360 dollars per year and your bulbs last 3 years then you have saved $1080. That is a decent amount of money just for changing light bulbs.

CFL Lighting Can Be Your First Step To Green Living

I personally replaced every incandescent bulb in my house with CFL bulbs and have seen savings. You should understand also though that the savings may not look as high because energy prices are still rising. So you may cut your use by 30% from last month but if the electricity price went up, your actual money savings won't look as high. To see your savings you will have to compare actual energy consumption from a bill when you had incandescent lights to a bill after you switched to new CFL light bulbs.
