We will look at some common tips and green building products that can help you take advantage of green renovations and green building methods to start enjoying cost savings as well as doing something great for the environment.
Green building materials have a great many benefits for homeowners as well as builders, and green remodeling contractors. The most important benefits of green building materials to the homeowner who desires a green home are the overall durability and potential cost savings. A green home is very durable and requires much less work and effort keeping up with routine and preventative maintenance. This will certainly make life easier on the average homeowner while requiring fewer call backs for contractors who specialize in green renovations and green building materials. Increasing energy efficiency is the key factor in every green home renovation or green remodeling project, and it is quite practical for almost all homeowners to achieve with the proper green building materials. An energy efficient home can save money in various areas either during new green construction or when performing green renovations on your current home, it will also provide the homeowner savings each year through lower utility bills and fewer maintenance expenses.
Green building materials and green home components, like energy star appliances and high efficiency HVAC units used during green home renovations do not typically need repairs as frequently, in fact many green building products used during green renovations or green remodeling projects will likely outlast the homeowner. There are many examples of green home renovations and numerous green building products that achieve high levels of durability and efficiency while still being relatively affordable.

Some Common Green Renovations and Green Building Products
Pest control without the harmful chemicals which discourages termites or other pests from invading your home is one example of green building. There are green building products that can achieve this by segregating exterior connections where concrete and wood meet with a metal or plastic fastener or a divider. Other examples of green building products or green building materials frequently used in green renovations may include green roofing materials that are environmentally friendly and may have warranties of up to 50 years or recycled deck materials which are considered to be green and never need paint or stain, these green building materials can last up to 5 times longer than traditional wood deck materials.
Advanced green building techniques like framing the exterior walls with 2x6 studs and using 24 inch spacing allows more insulation when compared to conventional 2x4 studs and 16 inch spacing. Increasing the amount of insulation in the exterior walls saves heating and cooling energy year round making your home a more green home. This also improves the homes comfort, and may mean you can use a smaller HVAC system. Framing with 2x6 studs reduces the wood required and requires less labor, this can save the homeowner some money during green renovations or new construction of a green home. A more energy efficient home will feel much more comfortable even though it is using less energy to maintain that comfort level.
The easiest and most important way to use some green building products for your green renovation ideas is sealing the entire home to cut air leakage. Designing and placing duct work to minimize loss of energy is also an effective green renovating or remodeling project for increasing efficiency. Increasing insulation, choosing windows that are energy star rated, and any other way you can tighten the thermal envelope will decrease the demand on your HVAC system. Properly sized HVAC systems are extremely important for efficiency, a smaller system can often be used when the thermal envelope is more tightly sealed and better insulated. Smaller HVAC systems often provide the same or better comfort with lower overall energy costs. Smaller heating and cooling systems also can also be less expensive initially, which saves some money during green renovations as well as yearly savings from lower energy bills. Implementing green building products during your home remodeling or green renovation will allow you to take advantage of the savings and benefits of living green. The green building products and green methods discussed here can help you complete your green renovations in no time.

Amazing hub. Useful information for people planning to have an eco-friendly house. Thanks.
Another green option is to frame with steel studs instead of wood. Steel framed homes are typically built with 2x6 or 2x8 exterior studs. This allows you to use less studs as described above, but more importantly, the steel is made from recycled automobiles, not mature trees. Also, the framing waste for an average wood stud home is 20%, whereas the steel stud waste will fit into a 55 gallon barrel. There are other benefits to steel as well.
Thanks. Hope those new green options are affordable.
The way to go is Green. Thanks for sharing some great ideas, for new ways in house and building design to save our Planet

Great article. The savings can truly add up if you use many of these practices.
I hope that that gren technology becomes cheaper to implement. That is the key to get more people to use it. Yes we can save some money on fuel bills but we need to get the material cost cheaper.
Inorganic Phase change materials are great economical option for green builders. They allow to save energy on heating and cooling.
Additional big plus - inorganic PCMs are non-flammable.
Flat panels filled with PCM-HS22P, for example, are easy to install in attic or under floor.
