Could E-Magazines and E-Newspapers Benefit The World?

Creating E-newspapers and E-magazines for which readers can get E-subscriptions delivered directly to an Apple iPad tablet, Amazon Kindle or similar E-reader device like the new Nook from Barnes and Noble could be the future of print publications. Much like E-books, digital newsstands along with Newspaper and magazine publishers offering this type of e-subscription service could be the next wave in technology especially with the upcoming release of the Apple iPad tablet and the current availability of the Amazon Kindle e-reader devices as well as the recent release of the Nook from Barnes & Noble. Imagine a world with no printed newspapers or magazines which are killing trees by the thousands. I know the newspaper publishers and magazine companies are freaking out right now and thinking, "hey we have to make a living too". I am not saying we should not have newspapers, books, or magazines. I am saying they should be delivered in a way that doesn't hurt the environment. Digital newsstands offering electronic delivery or e-subscriptions can solve many problems with the use of paper products and recycling. Imagine everyone who has an Amazon Kindle, Apple iPad tablet or other electronic reader device receiving the newspaper of their choice by e-subscription directly to the e-reader device they own. Imagine monthly magazine subscriptions automatically delivered to your Amazon Kindle or Apple iPad tablet. The benefits of this are many and the downside is almost zero. You can visit the Best Buy link at the end of this article to buy an iPad or check out other eReader devices.

Editor Demonstrates Future Sports Illustrated E-subscription on the Apple iPad

The Apple iPad Tablet and Amazon Kindle Make it Possible

With the Apple iPad tablet or Amazon Kindle anyone who owns one of these devices can subscribe to the publication of their choice. E-subscriptions would mean someone on the west coast can subscribe to the paper from their home town back east. Someone who travels a lot and usually picks up magazines in airport news stands can now have their favorite magazine delivered electronically. I am not going to get into all of the economics and possibilities here but here are just a few thoughts to ponder.

How much paper and ink could be saved by having e-newspapers and e-magazines instead of printed ones?

How much energy can be saved by not running the massive machinery that is used to print all of these publications?

If people are subscribing to a magazine or newspaper which has to calculate distribution costs, how much could subscribers save due to reduced print and distribution costs?

Would the overall savings in these basic areas justify the initial cost of the Apple iPad tablet or Amazon Kindle? ($300 - $900)

You can get your iPad at the MacMall the #1 Apple super store. The link opens in a new window so you can stay and vote in my polls and have your opinion heard.

Digital Newstands Offering E-subscriptions are the Future of Magazines and Newspapers

Digital news stands and e-newspapers or e-magazines are not something many people have heard of or think about these days. However, digital news stands that offer e-subscriptions are coming to the mainstream. The Apple iPad tablet, Amazon Kindle, and other e-reader devices make e-subscriptions easy to make available to many of us quite soon. There are a few publications currently online that have kind of a digital new stand or electronic subscription option and there has been talk of a few major publications working on this as well. The possibility of having an e-subscription for your favorite e-magazine or e-newspaper will no doubt be another big hit for many of us. Along with the easy access and the ability to avoid a trip to the store for a newspaper or magazine, e-newspapers or e-magazines will also greatly reduce paper waste and the need to recycle those papers. Overall the Amazon Kindle e-reader, the Apple iPad tablet, and other e-reader devices will make e-subscriptions possible and these devices could become the ultimate in green living ideas that cut paper waste. If you would like to buy an Apple iPad, Amazon Kindle, Nook or other E-reader device, check out all of the available e-reader devices at Best Buy.

It is a good idea, but how is it that different to reading it online whatever hardware you use to do that? Currently, if you are a member of a public library you can get free access to a lot newspapers (admit-not sure about magazines, but am sure they are coming) online anyway. The libraries pay the subscriptions and you as a member get the access. Have I misunderstood?

Has_aWayWithWords 2 years ago

LaVieja, The point of this type of subscription is to have it fully available at your fingertips. Libraries have some papers available but not all and most are found online but they are not always the same as what is in print. The magazines would be an even bigger deal because you can't find many mags online that give you full access to an issue without ordering it in print

I guess so, you have obviously researched it so I won't argue. I just know, having worked in public libraries for a long time, that they do hold many subscriptions and each year are increasing what is available. I think the magazines probably will be where they don't cover enough, but in the next few years I would be surprised if all the national newspapers at least, were not available. Where I think your idea probably has the advantage is the speed with which you can implement it. I imagine you would probably be able to move a lot faster than the library service. Good luck with it anyway, and keep us updated!

The most recent news is that a former major figure from the NY Times has suggested the promotion of e-readers like the iPad, Kindle, Nook, and others to subscribers by offering those who subscribe long term a free e-reader. This could be a major step in the right direction.

I was a non-believer at first, but somehow I have about 60 books on my kindle app in the iPad, and about 15 digital magazine subscriptions on my Zinio app on the iPad, so I'd say I've converted quite well.. so much so I started a digital magazine shop. Ooops!
